Out of an abundance of caution and safety for all involved, our annual Rumrunners Celebrity Chef Night has been canceled…but there is still an event!
It is called fighting cancer.
Cancer did not stop because of COVID-19. Children did not stop getting sick. Since March, more than 30 children have been diagnosed with cancer and are now in the fight of their lives. Today, there are more than 80 children on active treatment and our outpatient clinics are seeing over 400 visits a month.
Our program is not slowing down either. It is expanding. Today we are also treating young adults, up to age 30, diagnosed with a childhood cancer. Research has shown these teens and young adults have a 30% higher success rate when treated under a pediatric protocol. Overall, the survival rate at Golisano Children’s Hospital is higher than the national average — 84% vs the national average of 80%.
The effort to support children and their families battling cancer continues. We need your help now more than ever.
For the last 25 years, Barbara’s Friends has helped more than 10,000 Southwest Florida children and their families in their battle with cancer. This has included financial assistance for families whose full-time job became caring for their sick child. It provides needs such as at home chemotherapy for leukemia patients, groceries for families who can’t afford them, and throwing a child an End of Chemo party to celebrate a child’s strength and resilience throughout their battle with cancer.
Instead of buying a ticket, finding the perfect seat, and bidding on auction items – would you consider a gift of at least $250 in honor of the 25th Anniversary of Barbara’s Friends?
Your gift always makes a difference, but this year it has a greater impact than ever before. Because of the pandemic, our children and their families are struggling even more. We have increased our level of support to these families to make sure they can focus on the most important thing — their child’s health.
