As a supporter of Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, we know you recognize the importance of children’s health care every day of the year. However, this week is special…

As a Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospital, Golisano Children’s Hospital is celebrating Children’s Hospital Week April 19-25, 2021. We’d like to take this time to thank our generous community for supporting the well-being of local children and families throughout the year. With your philanthropic support, we have made great strides in enhancing and expanding services to ensure our families can stay close to home and close to what matters most to them while receiving lifesaving care.

COVID-19 Care

In addition to caring for children who have been seriously ill with COVID-19, we’ve been able to continue safely serving all children by adapting the way we work throughout the children’s hospital and its satellite locations. While this hasn’t been easy on anyone, we are so thankful for the community’s support as we continue our mission during these unprecedented times. The Child Life program is more important than ever for kids who must stay in the hospital with limited visitation. Child Life is a vital program funded entirely by private donations, which helps kids be kids when they are in the hospital!

Ophthalmology

The SWFL Children’s Charities Eye Institute of Golisano Children’s Hospital is opening this summer, ensuring access to pediatric ophthalmology care in Southwest Florida. We were thrilled when SWFL Children’s Charities saw the clear need for expanded services and chose to make ophthalmology the fund-a-need for the Southwest Florida Wine & Food Fest. Our community’s generosity is visionary! Learn more about this new center here.

Neurosurgery

This represents some serious headway! Learn more about this new program here.

Adolescent Medicine

In November, we welcomed Dr. Marcela Nur to Lee Physician Group. She is specializing in adolescent and young adult medicine, bringing a new practice area that will serve male and female patients ages 12 to 24 as they cope with the unique physical and emotional health challenges that occur during adolescence. Learn more about this new practice area, including Dr. Nur’s outstanding credentials and passion for adolescent medicine here.

Naples Infusion Clinic

The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation’s $200,000 grant was matched with the help of $100,000 from the Clark Family Foundation and other generous donors throughout the community, enabling Golisano Children’s Hospital to proceed with the addition of a pediatric hematology and oncology infusion clinic in Naples. The newly renovated space will allow nearly three times the number of children to receive chemotherapy treatments in Naples and meet with their Golisano Children’s Hospital pediatric oncologist without needing to drive to Fort Myers or further. It comes with an infusion of gratitude!

Behavioral Health

The community’s philanthropic support of Kids’ Minds Matter has been essential to addressing the nationwide children’s mental health epidemic in Southwest Florida. In May, we will kick off Mental Health Awareness Month with tons of momentum following the “Unmasking the Epidemic” virtual event, and soon we will celebrate the expansion of our behavioral health program to satellite clinics throughout our region, bringing care to kids, right where they are. Learn more about Kids’ Minds Matter and how you can become an advocate here.

We look forward to celebrating these achievements and sharing an even greater vision for the future during this important week focused on children’s hospitals. Southwest Florida children and families are counting on each of us!
